Hereâs today's lesson:
Day 1: It Stinks to Start From a Deficit
Diets donât work. And, one of the BIG reasons why will surprise you.Â
You see, when most of us begin a new plan, it comes from a place of frustrationâseeing what weâre not, and feeling the deficit.Â
Diet culture feeds into this by focusing on what you lack, however God calls us to a different way. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, He tells us to âgive thanks in all circumstances.âÂ
Diets often lead us away from thankfulness and toward dissatisfaction, but gratitude aligns our hearts with Godâs amazing design for us.
So, whatâs the alternative?
Instead of focusing on what you lack, embrace gratitude for what you already have. This shift flips the script and reflects Godâs higher ways (Isaiah 55:9).
How does gratitude help?
- Gratitude nurtures care. Like tending a small garden, appreciating your body changes how you treat it.
- Thankfulness invites mindfulness. When you value something, you naturally treat it with more intention and care.

 â Todayâs Bite-Sized Assignment:
Bite 1: Acknowledge Your Body: Sometime today write down five things your body allows you to do.
Here are some examples:
- Ears to hear worship music.
- Eyes to read His Word or see the beauty of His creation.Â
- Arms to hug a loved one.
Bite 2: Replace Negativity with Gratitude: When you catch yourself saying something unkind to yourself, pause. Replace it with a prayer of gratitude, such as:
- âLord, thank You for the strength in my legs that lets me walk today.â
- âFather, Iâm grateful for the breath Youâve given me to speak and love others.â
đ Key Takeaway:
When you begin with gratitude instead of frustration, youâre caring for the gift God has already given you. A heart of thankfulness allows you to appreciate the journey, not just the destination.
đ Whatâs next?
Itâs time to CELEBRATE! Did you know that celebrating your wins helps your new habits solidify in your brain and gives you a little dopamine hit (yep, kinda like snacks do!) That âhitâ can help motivate you to do your habit. Sure, it may feel awkward at first, but celebrating is essential for getting your transformation rolling!Â
Here are some ways to celebrate.Â
1: Smile, do a little dance, raise your arms up and praise Godâin whatever way you would celebrate a loved one's winâdo the same for YOU!Â
2: Share it in our FREE Facebook group here (just visit the pinned post) or use #gracefilledplate on social. Follow us: Facebook | Instagram | TikTok
